A Weekend with Jimmy Creech
April 27-29, 2012
SAGA (Straight And Gay Alliance) at St. John's Episcopal Church in Charleston, WV is sponsoring a weekend with Jimmy Creech, co-founder of Faith in America, Inc. and a former ordained elder in The United Methodist Church. He was defrocked by the UMC after he celebrated a covenant ceremony for two women in September 1997. Jimmy recently published Adam's Gift, detailing his experiences of the Church's struggle to welcome and accept lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons. All events, except for the film on Friday evening, will be held at St. John's at the corner of Quarrier Street E. and Leon Sullivan Way.
Friday, April 27
Luncheon meeting with religious leaders, counselors, and legislative folks, etc. in Room 208 & 209 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch is either brown bag, or you may purchase lunch for a fee of $5 (salad and wraps). Please send an e-mail to saga2ndsunday@gmail.com or call 304-346-5633 by Thursday, April 26 to request lunch. No registration fee.
"Love Free or Die" will be shown at the WVSU Capitol Theatre on Summers Street at 7 PM. This event is sponsored by Bridges of Grace United Church of Christ and will be followed by a panel discussion which will include Mr. Creech and others. The film is about Gene Robinson, the first openly gay person to become a bishop in the Episcopal Church. There is no charge for this event.
Saturday, April 28
Open community forum at St. John's from 7:00-9:00 PM in Hunter Hall. There is no charge for this event, but monetary donations will be graciously received to help offset the cost of Mr. Creech's visit.
