Fwd: Op-ed re fair housing

---------- Forwarded message ----------

Subject: Op-ed
To: Sky Kershner <skykershner@gmail.com>

Sky,

I am looking for one or two clergy co-authors of an op-ed piece. The
subject is fairness in housing and employment. I am writing about the
inclusion of sexual orientation and gender identity in
anti-discrimination protections. The Employment and Housing
Non-Discrimination Act (EHNDA) is now before the WV legislature.  The
bill will die if not enacted by April.

Might the google group be a way to ask if there are some clergy
co-authors out there?

Jim

Helping Change Happen

How to Help Change Happen

Motivational Interviewing takes the natural stages of change model and pairs it with simple, profound techniques and a spirit of curiosity and compassion. Best of all, it is effective, and the results can be much more satisfying than forcing change by power or threats.

MI training is useful for any one who is interested in creating change within themselves or helping to support a change in an other person, organization, maybe even society!

Our Motivational Interviewing workshops series continues

Thursday, Feb 21, 9am - noon
at the Unity Church on Bridge Road in Charleston

Join us if you can!

"Active Shooter Awareness Training" - - please respond by Monday, February 18th

On Tue, Feb 12, 2013 at 6:36 PM, Briscoe, Janet M <Janet.M.Briscoe@wv.gov> wrote:

The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department, Kanawha County and City of Charleston Emergency Management and Law Enforcement partners in collaboration with the WV Board of Risk and Insurance Management will be sponsoring a community training entitled: "Shots Fired: Guidance for Surviving an Active Shooter Situation." This training is designed for a business office environment geared toward individual preparedness and response.  Using a "must see" video and advice from law enforcement experts, this training will provide you with specific actions you can take to increase your chances of surviving the unthinkable.  Takeaways from this training will include advice on developing a survival mindset, information which you will want to share with co-workers and family. It will also include audience participation in a Question and Answer session with a panel of law enforcement officers.

Registration Information

The training will be held at the Charleston Civic Center on Tuesday, March 5 from 10:00 am – 11:30 am. Immediately following the training will be our quarterly meeting of the Kanawha Multi-Agency Planning and Advisory Committee (MPAC) which will also be held at the Charleston Civic Center from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm. How to Talk so Addiction will Listen - MI Training WV

Friends --

I wanted to make sure you saw that we will be hosting another Motivational Interviewing Training this month in Charleston on Feb 28, 9am - 12 noon.

I think of MI as "How to Talk so Addiction will Listen," if you have not had this training, please consider it. With the massive problem of prescription drug abuse in our state, our goal is to find a way to help every professional have access to this training. It is evidence-based, state of the art, it is different from anything you have had before, and it works where many other interventions fail.

And to top it off, Jack Stringfellow is a wonderful presenter. Jack is a certified MI Trainer (a "MINT"), and the hours you sit with him will not only count towards LPC and SW ceu's, but also towards MI credentialing.

We will be continuing these three hour trainings each month for the next year. A different topic and skill each time. Please join us as you are able!

Cost is only $30 for a 3 contact hour certificate

Wishing you a great day!

What We Love

What We Love

February is Love Month here at KPCC, and I am excited about that the workshops we are presenting this month are fully designed to help learn the skills of having better relationships!

Andy Counts will be presenting "Building a Love that Lasts" this Saturday, Feb 9, in Teays Valley. This four hour class is based on the marriage research on John Gottman on how to learn the skills of successful marriage. Great for a refresher or for couples new to relationship skill building. A perfect gift for your Valentine!

I will be continuing a series on Genuine Communication this Sunday, Feb 10, at 12:30 in Charleston. These skills are great for parenting dilemmas and work related issues.

And finally, Jack Stringfellow will be continuing his series on how to offer help to folks suffering with an addiction. The Motivational Interviewing model is state-of-the-art training for professionals, but anyone with an interest or a heart to learn can benefit. The next class meeting will be Thurs, Feb 22.

These are all skills to help you have better relationship with yourself and with others!

Wishing you a wonderful week!
