New pastoral letter by WV Catholic Bishop

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: John Finnell <johnhfinnell@yahoo.com>
Date: Thu, Mar 15, 2012 at 9:52 PM
Subject: Re: Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day)
To: Sky Kershner <sky@kpcc.com>

Sky,

I would appreciate your sharing this message with the CARLA group.  Thanks!  John Finnell

Dear Spiritual Leader,

Please share this invitation to your congregation.

Poverty will be the topic of a new pastoral letter to be published by the Most Rev. Michael J. Bransfield, Catholic Bishop of Wheeling-Charleston, a diocese that includes all of West Virginia.

The bishop would like to hear from as many people as possible who can share their observations and insights about people who experience poverty in our state.  Representatives of the bishop will hold "listening sessions" at various locations around the state in coming months.

One of these listening sessions will be held Sunday, March 25, at 1:30pm at Blessed Sacrament Church, 305 E Street, South Charleston.  It will be facilitated by Deacon Todd Garland, executive director of the diocesan Office of Social Ministries.

Anyone and everyone, from any religious background, is most welcome to participate.  No advance registration is required.

Particular topics of interest are:  (1) the central issues that contribute to poverty in our state;  (2) the Church's response to those in poverty;  (3) what the Bishop should know about poverty;  (4) what the Bishop should say about poverty.

Over the past six years Bishop Bransfield has promulgated three pastoral letters on the topics of  health, miners' safety, and  behavioral health & substance abuse. These documents may be found on the diocesan website at: www.dwc.org. Then click "Bishop Bransfield" and "Pastoral Letters."

For more information contact Deacon Garland at 304-380-0155 or the pastor of Blessed Sacrament Church, Rev. John H. Finnell at 304-744-5523.

Being the new kid on the block so to speak, are there any community events during Holy Week?  Does anyone have a Maundy Thursday or Good Friday event?  Trying not to reinvent the wheel if things exist.

Blessings!

Dear Friends:

We are asking you to join with the Charleston Jewish Community on Thursday, April 19, 2012 for the nineteenth annual "Unto Every Person There Is A Name" Holocaust Memorial Program, at the Charleston Town Center.  The event will be held between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., on the ground level in front of Macy's.

We would be honored to have you join with families, friends and neighbors to read the names of those murdered.  A preferred time slot can be reserved by contacting Greg Proctor at templeisraelwv@gmail.com or 304-342-5852.
