Gabriel Project

Sky,

Since I came to the area in July I have had to take over the assistance program here
at Christ Church.  In the process of doing that I have learned about other programs in
the area.  I have been told repeatedly that the Gabriel Project in this are was not up
and running; however, I visited them this morning and discovered that they are.  in an
attempt to get the word out, would you please forward this email to the CARLA group.

The director at the project is Regina Barido.  Number:304-414-4666. Email:
methrovalleygabrielproject@yahoo.com. They do not yet have enough volunteers (HINT!!!)
so they cannot be open every day, all day but they do take folks by apointment.  They
are in the process of looking for churches who could be satellite spots to help
mothers.  For those who may not know, the Gabriel Project helps supply mothers of
young children with whatever they might need from diapers to clothing (including
maternity clothing).  They are housed in the Sacred Heart Annex in downtown
Charleston.
I have copied Regina on this email and will also be sending her info out to the other
assistance programs in the area.

Thank you!

Was the Dent Dinner Fun?

Thdent_2010is year's Dent Dinner was a huge success! The good news is that for the first time ever, we were oversold! The bad news is the same thing: we were oversold! A big that you for the patience of everyone as we found enough seating! And was it funny? "Row, row, row your boat will never be the same!"

Sky Kershner on Honesty
Sky Kershner 2010 6
Jeff Brown has certainly picked an intriguing title for his communication workshop in November! Honesty seems to be something many of us struggle with, especially when we are trying to balance this value with that of caring. "I could never tell her that!" I heard a husband say recently.

Intimacy is so connected with letting another person know who I really am. Are there ways to tell the harder truths about ourselves and do it in a way that preserves and even strengthens our relationships?  If you are not sure, please consider joining us for the communication workshop "Adventures in Honesty" Nov 12-13.

Fwd: CARLA from Rabbi Jim Cohn

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Rabbi James D. Cohn <rabbi.mailbox@gmail.com>
Date: Tue, Oct 5, 2010 at 9:24 PM
Subject: CARLA
To: Sky Kershner <skykershner@gmail.com>

To my Charleston clergy colleagues, from Rabbi Jim Cohn:

Frankly, who cares whether counseling is available to people who can't afford  to pay for it?

Well, frankly, – you do.  I do, too.

That's why I felt confident going to my Temple Israel Board and asking them to buy a table for 10 at the Jim Dent dinner.  They said "Yes" when I told them we'd have 10 seats at our own table for a mere $750.  But don't let that figure scare you.  Your faith community can purchase fewer seats, right down to 2 for $100. What do you get in return? An evening of food, hearty (and family-safe) entertainment by a celebrated humorist, great bonding among the members of your group, opportunities to network with other faith communities, and the knowledge that your contribution will help the beneficiary – Kanawha Pastoral Counseling Center – provide services to ANY person in our community in mental or emotional crisis.

If your mission or your ministry cherishes the well-being of the community, please come have fun at the Jim Dent Dinner on Tuesday Oct 19, 2010, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.  Here's the link to all the info you need:

http://kpcc.com/dentdinner.htm

Or you can reply to this email and Sky can fill you in.

Don't have the money in your budget?  Believe me, I understand.  Then please budget anywhere from $100 to $750 (or more) now, in NEXT year's budget.

Can't be there that night?  You can still donate to KPCC's Client Sponsorship Fund. Your money could save a human spirit.

Jim

Join us for a fun, experiential, and moving introduction to the principles and practices of Compassionate Nonviolent Communication (NVC).

Discover a life-transforming communication practice that builds trust, transforms conflict, and creates authentic connection in your relationships.

In this event, you will learn how to create a quality of connection between yourself and others where everyone's needs, even in conflict situations, are held with care and compassion... without resorting to punishment, force, manipulation, blame or other approaches that we end up paying for later.

You will learn how to:

* express yourself honestly and openly;
* hear difficult messages without taking them personally;
* connect with others by communicating empathy; and
* find the gift that underlies all blame, judgment and criticism.
