I just wanted to send a note on the details of the upcoming march to the Kanawha County School Board this Thursday.  The group will meet at Trinity Church located between Elizabeth and Kanawha Blvd at 5:00 p.m. and march to the school board to attend the meeting at 6:00 p.m.  Anyone interested in being placed on the agenda to speak during the school board meeting please be sure to call by tomorrow.

The Pre- MLK Jr. Events sponsored by the Charleston Black Ministerial Alliance and the dates thereof are as follows.

 

#1. On this Saturday night January 14th, at 6:30pm there will be a Spoken Word Poetry event focused on Dr. King and Black History featuring local Poets displaying their talents. This event will be held at the Metropolitan Baptist Church Rev. Darin Freeman is the Pastor.

 

#2. On this Friday night January 13th at 6:30pm there will be an animated video viewing of the life of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. geared toward educating of our elementary youth of the life of Dr. King. This event will be held at the Shiloh Baptist Church where Rev. Lenorris Dixon is the Pastor.

Blessings and Greetings for the New Year

 

In tribute to King Day 2012, I have chosen to share the attached is the prayer that I gave at the funeral of Dr. King with special friends and associates in organizations that I esteem such as the CBMA. It was initially introduced into the Congressional Record by Senator Jacob Javits a liberal Republican from New York and most recently retrieved by the staff of Senator Manchin. I am convinced that it is by Providence that King Day has become the first holiday of the New Year. 

 

On my recent visit to the King Memorial in Washington, D.C. which stands among the Pantheon of monuments to Presidents and military heroes,  I was seized by the thought that before we celebrate the birthdays of Washington and Lincoln - the only other Americans to be so honored with a national holiday - we are called to honor the life and legacy of a Black Baptist preacher, non-violent warrior and grandson of a slave. This seems to bear witness to the biblical mandate: "the first shall be last and the last first".

CBMA Jan 2012 Meeting

The January CBMA meeting will be held on  Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 9:00 am at the Father's House Baptist Church, 500 29th St., N,  Charleston WV.  The Rev. Dr. Lloyd Allan Hill is the pastor.  We have the upcoming MLK service to complete and unfinished local business as well so please plan to attend.

The Charleston Black Ministerial Alliance Inc. will hold its 37^th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Birthday Celebration on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 6:00 pm at First Baptist Church, 432 Shrewsbury Street, Charleston, West Virginia.

Our speaker will be The Reverend Paul Dunn, the pastor of First Baptist Church, Charleston WV. The music will be provided by the Martin Luther King Male Chorus and The Shabach Choir of First Baptist Church.

This is a formal service and we are asking all clergy who plan to attend to wear their clerical robes/vestments; all missionary ladies to be dressed in white.
