Hadassah, a Zionist organization, was founded in 1912.  It has over 300,000 members, including male associates.  Hadassah has sent physicians into the jungles of Africa and the first medical assiatance into the battle zones of Kosovo.  It has built dams, seeded forest, consulted with kings, presidents and prime ministers.  It has raised well over a billion dollars, build a world-renown medical center, a college of technology and supports a youth education movement.  It has defined the role of women in the creation of the Zionist movement and the State of Israel.

In the United States, Hadassah helps strengthen American democracy through a program of information and study designed to awaken its members to their civic responsibility and an awareness of the issues of the day.  American benefit from Hadassah support to medicine, due to its cutting edge in medical research for various diseases and conditions.

In Israel, the lush green forest whispers a breeze because of Hadassah; a field is fruitful because of Hadassah; a baby see a flower because of Hadassah; a youngster walks because of Hadassah; a teenager hears a sibling's laughter because of Hadassah; an adult receives hope because of Hadassah; a senior citizen spends his/her days incomfort because ofr Hadassah and water flows more freely because of Hadassah.

Thank you for supporting Hadassah!  We look forward to seeing you on Sunday, April 21st.

Fwd: Special Invitation! From distributers of "Courageous"

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Shelley Coleman <slscarbro@gmail.com>

Subject: Special Invitation! From distributers of "Courageous"

Pastors, Ministry Leaders, and friends, (Please pass along to other leaders who would be interested in helping us promote this movie)

In case you missed the movie screening in Teays Valley, here is your second chance to help us promote this faith-based motion picture that tells a relevant and dramatic message of hope.  The movie is called Home Run and is distributed by the same folks who distributed Courageous. It opens nationwide on April 19th.  We would like to invite you to a private screening on March 22th at 7:00pm at River Ridge Charleston (Located on 2090 Greenbrier St in Charleston). You are being invited to this screening because we believe, once you have seen this powerful movie, you will be able to help us get the word out to your community about this life changing movie.

If you would like to learn more about the movie, there are several ways you can do it.

-Go to their website (there is a short preview on the home page): www.homerunthemovie.com

-Check out their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/HomeRunTheMovie

The basic story is this: "Forced back to his home town, an alcoholic baseball hotshot fakes recovery to regain his position on the roster, coaches a little league team to regain his popularity, pursues an old flame to regain a romance, all while finding redemption in an unlikely place."

If you are able to attend this screening, please respond with your RSVP information at the following link:

http://homerun.themoviescreener.com/evite/439691646479

IMPORTANT NOTE (from the movie production team): This advance showing is by invitation only. RSVPs are non-transferable. These advance showings are exclusively for Pastors, Ministry leaders, Business leaders, and Celebrate Recovery Ministry Team leadership and spouses. Please do not RSVP if you do not fit in one of these categories. Instead, please plan to see this movie when it opens in theaters. The movie might be rated PG-13 for some thematic material. Please DO NOT bring children to the screening. Thanks!

We ask that only YOU and YOUR SPOUSE (if you desire) attend our screening of the movie. If you feel there is someone else from your church/organization who would be a significant person of influence to help promote this movie (such as a pastor or business person), please send me the contact information and I will send out an invitation to them directly. If you have any other questions about this movie or the screening that we are hosting on March 22nd, please contact me.

God Bless!

Motivation to Change

One of the perstent topics I hear from clergy is how hard it is for change to happen. Whether in our selves, in others, in congregations, in organizations, in powers and principalities.

Got Motivation?

Motivation is the energy and commitment to get something done.

Motivational Interviewing is a way to have a conversation with yourself or someone else that helps support the energy to get something done. Especially something difficult.

Many of us are engaged in these kinds of inner and outer dialogs on a daily basis.

Inline image 1

"My swimsuit told me to go to the gym today.
But my sweatpants were like ... Nah girl you're good!"

Want to Get Better at Supporting Motivation?

In our 3rd MI workshop in this series, we will be exploring the basic technique of OARS. OARS is the bread and butter of the Interviewing technique. When I first heard what OARS was I thought I knew it already, but the practice proved more challenging than the picture in my mind. And it is the basis for not only good therapy, but good friendship:

Open-ended questioning
Affirming
Reflecting
Summarizing

This is a great class to jump in on!

Even though we are providing these classes in a series, you can still jump in. And this would be a great one to come to. Lots of practical application, lots of practice. You will know the basics by the end of this class.

Who is this for?

Anyone who wants to bring change into their own life or the life of others. Many professionals are taking the class, but the applications are useful for the general public as well. Continuing Education contact hours are available for LPCs, RNs, and SWs.

This is a great refresher class for clergy!

Our Motivational Interviewing workshops series continues:

Thursday, March 21, 9am - noon
at the Unity Church on Bridge Road in Charleston
The cost is only $30 for the 3 hour session

Join us if you can!

April 7th Medicaid Expansion Event

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: <cbutler@wvpresbytery.org>
Date: Thu, Mar 14, 2013 at 11:17 AM
Subject: April 7th Medicaid Expansion Event
To: skykershner@gmail.com
Cc: renatepore@gmail.com

Sky,

Can you please forward the following information and the attached flyer to the CARLA email list.

If they are interested in co-sponsoring the event they need to email Renate Pore at renatepore@gmail.com and let her know!

Medicaid Expansion

will mean

Health Care for

120,000

West Virginians!

STATEWIDE

FORUM & Training

Sunday * April 7 * Charleston

Christ Church United Methodist, 1221 Quarrier

2:00pm – 3:30pm (Doors open 1:30pm)

RSVP: Renate Pore (renatepore@gmail.com)

Did you know that our state has the opportunity to draw federal funds to provide health care for 120,000 working families? If Gov. Tomblin says "yes" to Medicaid Expansion, the Federal Government will provide more than 90 percent of the costs to pay for health insurance for families who are working but making less than 138 percent of the federal poverty line.  The rest of the costs will come from the enormous savings from families no longer relying on costly emergency room care.  Governors across the country, including 8 Republican and all Democratic Governors have said yes to Medicaid expansion because it is good for their state's budget, economy, and health.  The program would create 6200 new jobs in West Virginia alone!

At the forum, everyone will also receive basic training on how to advocate for these changes in your own community.  We encourage you to come to the forum, so you can take back information and strategies to continue this work afterward!

The Julian Jaynes Society

CONFERENCE ON CONSCIOUSNESS

June 5-8, 2013

Temple Israel

This multidisciplinary conference will address the widespread depictions of gods and idols throughout the ancient world's artifacts and literatures; the relationship of introspective consciousness and language; the influence of oracles on entire nations and cultures; the disappearance of prophetic voices in biblical literature over a specific time frame; the question of how consciousness is taught to children and developed within cultures; and the vestiges of earlier mentalities in modern mental life.

The conference will draw together neuroscientists, clergy, linguists, psychologists, historians, philosophers, and anyone who is intrigued by questions about how and why we humans began to think about thinking. Three days of presentations and discussions will feature scholars from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The public is invited.
