Clergy Crisis Response Trainings in May

Kan Co Ambulance Authority Chaplain Mike Jarret and I will be leading several different Critical Incident Stress Management Certificate trainings this coming May.

Given the on-going nature of crisis and disaster in our community these trainings offer essential skills for clergy, especially the May 8-9 training on Pastoral Crisis Intervention.

It is our hope that many of our CARLA clergy will be interested in getting this training and will become part of the Kanawha County CISM response team.

Crisis Response Skills

Crisis Response Certificate Training

Crisis Intervention is a specialized acute emergency mental health intervention which requires specialized training. As physical first aid is to surgery, crisis intervention is to psychotherapy. Crisis intervention is sometimes called "emotional first aid". This program is designed for teach participants the fundamentals of, and a specific protocol for, individual crisis intervention.

UUC 60th anniversary

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation is observing its 60th year this April. We're having a coffee house/concert on Saturday evening April 20 that is open to everyone at 7:30. Ken Sizemore, aka 'Old Folkie" will sing and lead singing of songs from the 60s and songs for the Earth, since it's Earth Day Weekend.

We're looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Tuesday the 9th when CARLA meets at UUC.

On Monday, April 8th, at 6:00 pm, the West Virginia Legislature is sponsoring a screening of the new documentary on hunger in America called A Place At The Table. It will be held in the Culture Center at the Capitol.
The entire West Virginia Legislature has been invited.

Lori Silverbush, the director of the film, and food expert Dr. Janet Poppendieck, who is featured in the film, will conduct a panel discussion immediately after the film. The discussion will be moderated by Senator John Unger, Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Children and Poverty.

Both the screening and the panel discussion are free and open to the public. I hope that you can make it. And please spread the word to anyone you think might be interested.
