WVSU to Hold Neighborhood Partnership Fair

The West Virginia State University (WVSU) campus will play host to a Faith-Based Neighborhood Partnership Fair from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19. The event will consist of a convocation at 11 a.m. in the Ferrell Hall Auditorium, a town hall meeting at 1 p.m. and a faith-based and neighborhood partnership showcase at 2 p.m. in the Wilson University Union. .

The event is being sponsored by WVSU's National Center for Human Relations, the West Virginia Human Rights Commission, and the WVSU College of Professional Studies. It is free and open to the public.

The featured speaker for the 11 a.m. convocation will be B.J. Douglass who serves as Senior Project Officer for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. She has traveled throughout the country providing a wide array of faith-based entities with vital information about how to utilize government resources to further enhance their capacity to serve people. During her 20-year career at HUD she has conceptualized and implemented innovative projects while working in the agency's diverse program areas.

The town hall meeting at 1 p.m. will consist of a training session to prepare faith-based and neighborhood organizations to apply for grants through HUD. Mrs. Douglass and national grant trainer, Evelyn Young, will conduct the workshop.

The showcase  at 2 p.m. will be an opportunity for faith-based and community groups to provide information on the services they offer.
